BEAUTY & SELF-CARE

While self-care can be empowering, it also exposes insecurities shaped by social pressures. Beauty has always required sacrifice, from historical beauty norms to modern tools like lifting stickers and jawline trainers.

A key moment in my research was seeing a woman apply and conceal face-lifting stickers, highlighting the endless pursuit of perfection. Another shift came when beauty patches, once hidden, became fashion statements, blurring the line between correction and self-expression.

THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION | INFLUENCERS & TRENDS

Social media has redefined beauty, with TikTok and Instagram dictating what people desire and consume.

Influencers create the illusion of effortless beauty while relying on filters, extensive routines, and sponsored products.

Young audiences trust them more than brands, reinforcing a cycle where trends dictate beauty rather than individuality.

Beauty is no longer just personal - it is curated and performed, making it harder to separate self-expression from social conformity.

THE CONCEPT – A BEAUTY KIT EXPOSING THE ILLUSION

This project was developed in collaboration with another designer.

We designed the 3D Filters that expose the manipulation behind beauty trends. The kit includes tension points that mimic surgical lifting, freckle and blush applications that create a curated "natural" look, and lip enhancers replicating Botox-like fullness. A visual frame divides digital perfection from reality, illustrating the contrast between filtered beauty and the physical self.

By turning digital beauty trends into tangible objects, The project critiques the way beauty standards are shaped, manipulated, and made visible.

Social media presents beauty as effortless while hiding the tools and processes behind it. Once-private enhancements, like lifting stickers and contouring tricks, are now openly worn as part of self-expression.

PROCESS

Composition on the face was central to my process. I explored how beauty tools interact with facial features versus existing as standalone objects.

Placement, tension, and visibility shaped how these modifications alter perception.
